EXPERIENCE REPORT
Located in Sirkeci, Hanzade Bosphorus brings together historical Ottoman cuisine, traditional Turkish kebabs and seafood within an elegant waterfront setting. Its commanding views across Istanbul provide a memorable backdrop, while the breadth of the menu allows guests to explore several distinct aspects of the country’s culinary heritage in a single experience.
For this visit, we focused on selections inspired by Ottoman cuisine. The Harem Kebab and Şemo Kebab were among the highlights, both delivering accomplished combinations of flavour, texture and careful preparation. Despite their distinctive individual characters, the dishes remained connected through a clear respect for traditional culinary foundations.
The same standard continued through the mezze and warm appetisers. Seasoning, salt and acidity were handled with balance, allowing each preparation to remain expressive without losing its connection to the original recipe. Every dish we sampled demonstrated care in both ingredient quality and execution.
The service team showed strong command of the extensive menu and delivered a level of hospitality consistent with the restaurant’s premium positioning. Their informed guidance helped us navigate the different sections of the menu, while the sequence and pace of the meal allowed each dish to be appreciated comfortably.
The restaurant’s broad beverage selection made it possible to create suitable alcoholic and non-alcoholic pairings across the meal. This flexibility is particularly valuable for a menu that moves between mezze, richly flavoured kebabs, Ottoman specialities and seafood.
The atmosphere is undoubtedly one of Hanzade Bosphorus’s defining strengths. Istanbul’s remarkable waterfront panorama unfolds below the restaurant, creating a genuine sense of occasion. Importantly, the cuisine and service were strong enough to ensure that the experience was not dependent on the view alone.
Hanzade Bosphorus earned its place in our guide as one of the rarer Istanbul destinations where an exceptional setting is matched by a varied and accomplished kitchen. We left thoroughly satisfied with the quality of the dishes and hope to find the same culinary, service and presentation standards maintained on our next visit.
